Ricardo holds a law degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1983), a master’s degree in Industrial Property from the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster (1995), and a doctorate in European Patent Law from the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster (2002). He served as a federal prosecutor in the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the National Institute of Industrial Property from July 1984 until his retirement in August 2019.

He is an associate professor at the School of Legal Sciences of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). He was approved for tenured professor at UniRio in November 2023.

Since October 2007, he has served as Chief of the Legal Guidance Division of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office at the National Institute of Industrial Property. He held this position until April 2009. From March to December 2009, he attended the Advanced Studies in Politics and Strategy (CAEPE) course at the War College, where he wrote a monograph on Intellectual Property Law. From March 1, 2010, to July 20, 2010, he served as Director of the School of Administration of the Center for Legal and Political Sciences at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO).
